JPEG support and image quality
This version cleans JPEG files. HEIC/HEIF, RAW, PNG and other formats are not accepted for cleaning. Use the EXIF Viewer when you only need to inspect JPEG or HEIC metadata.
For JPEGs with normal or missing orientation metadata, the compressed image stream is copied unchanged. The recommended mode retains detectable ICC color-profile data; the broader mode removes it and may change color appearance in color-managed software. If a JPEG relies on EXIF orientation, the browser must render and re-encode it so the downloaded copy keeps the displayed orientation. The result then reports that image quality and color appearance cannot be guaranteed unchanged.

What metadata can this remove?
The recommended mode removes the complete EXIF block, including GPS, serial numbers, timestamps, camera, lens and exposure fields, plus XMP and IPTC. It does not selectively keep non-sensitive EXIF fields. The broader mode also removes JPEG comments, unknown application metadata and detectable ICC color-profile segments. Both modes preserve structural JPEG data.
Does removing metadata change the photo?
Usually the compressed JPEG image data is copied exactly. A photo that depends on EXIF orientation is re-encoded to prevent an unexpected rotation after EXIF removal. The verification result tells you which processing path was used.
Does a cleaned file guarantee privacy?
No. Removing metadata does not hide faces, addresses, documents, screens, license plates or landmarks visible in the pixels. Review the image itself before sharing it.
Is the original photo changed?
No. The original file remains untouched. The browser creates a separate JPEG copy for download, and PhotoDataLab does not retain either file.
