Supported files and limitations
This viewer supports JPEG and HEIC/HEIF metadata through the locally running parser. HEIC decoding support varies by browser, although metadata may still be readable. Screenshots, exported images and messaging apps often remove EXIF data. A missing field means it was not available to the parser; it is not estimated.

What is EXIF data?
EXIF is metadata that a camera or phone may save inside an image file. Depending on the device and software, it can include the camera and lens, exposure settings, capture date, orientation, image dimensions and GPS coordinates.
How do I view EXIF metadata?
Choose or drop a JPEG or HEIC/HEIF file above. The viewer reads available tags in your browser and groups common fields into camera, exposure, location and rights sections. Advanced metadata lists additional browser-readable tags from the file.
Does PhotoDataLab upload my photo?
No. The selected image is read on this device and is not sent to PhotoDataLab. The page itself and its metadata parser are downloaded normally, but the photo and the metadata extracted from it stay in your browser.
Can EXIF show where a photo was taken?
It can when the device saved GPS coordinates and later software preserved them. This viewer displays those coordinates only on your device. Location metadata may be missing, imprecise or outdated, so review it before sharing the original file.
Why does my photo have no EXIF data?
Screenshots, social networks, messaging apps, editors and export tools often remove metadata. A device may also have location tagging disabled, use non-standard tags or save a format the parser cannot fully read. Missing metadata is reported as unavailable rather than estimated.
