Privacy Policy

This policy explains how PhotoDataLab handles information when you browse the site, use its tools or contact the project team. PhotoDataLab is developed and maintained by Ritkey.

Information handled by PhotoDataLab

• Basic request and security logs. The web server may record an IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp, response status and similar technical details needed to deliver, secure and diagnose the service.
• Messages you send. If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any information you choose to include.
• Serial-number lookups. A serial entered in the Fujifilm lookup is sent to the server to compare it with the active reference dataset. Do not enter account, order, warranty or owner data.
• Photography observations. Public pages use normalized, aggregated camera, lens and exposure metadata. PhotoDataLab does not publish photographer images, private photographs, email addresses, phone numbers or GPS coordinates as part of this dataset.

EXIF Viewer files stay in your browser

The EXIF Viewer reads a selected image locally in your browser. PhotoDataLab does not upload the file or extracted metadata to its server. Information shown on screen can include location metadata when that data exists in your file, so review it before sharing the original image with anyone.

How information is used

We use the limited information described above to:

• deliver the requested pages and tool results;
• protect the service against abuse, fraud and security threats;
• diagnose errors and maintain reliability;
• respond to enquiries and correction requests;
• produce non-identifying, observational photography statistics.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

PhotoDataLab may use strictly necessary cookies for request security and short-lived session behavior. At initial launch, Google Analytics, Search Console verification and AdSense are disabled. No advertising or analytics tag is loaded by the site while those integrations remain disabled. If this changes, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated before optional tracking is enabled.

Service providers and international access

Hosting, infrastructure and email providers may process limited technical or correspondence data as needed to provide their services. PhotoDataLab is available internationally, so these providers and visitors may be located in different countries. We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising at initial launch.

Retention and security

Technical logs and correspondence are retained only for as long as reasonably needed for security, diagnostics, responding to a request, recordkeeping or legal obligations. Retention depends on the type of record and the reason it is needed. We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection concerning personal information associated with you, and to complain to a relevant privacy authority. To make a request, use the Contact page. We may need enough information to verify and respond to the request. The browser-local EXIF Viewer does not send us the file, so we cannot retrieve or delete a file that never left your device.

Children

PhotoDataLab is a general-audience photography reference service and is not directed to children. Please do not send personal information about a child through the contact address or tool inputs.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service or its data practices change. The date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page before the related practice is enabled.
