Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of PhotoDataLab, including its photography data pages and tools. By using the service, you agree to these Terms. PhotoDataLab is developed and maintained by Ritkey.

Informational service

PhotoDataLab presents observational reference material derived from photography metadata. Counts, distributions and pairings describe the available dataset; they do not establish what equipment or setting is best, optimal, compatible with every product, or suitable for a particular purpose.

Tool limitations

EXIF and MakerNotes data can be missing, altered, removed or incorrectly written by a device or application. Serial lookup results can be exact database matches or clearly labelled inferences based on shared prefixes. A reported shutter counter can include different operations depending on the exact manufacturer, model and tag, and does not establish camera condition or remaining life. These tools do not verify ownership, authenticity, warranty status, manufacturing date, factory, condition or legal title. A Used Camera Checker result compares only seller claims entered by the user with metadata readable in the submitted file. It cannot establish whether a purchase is safe, whether a seller is legitimate, or whether the camera is stolen or free from defects. Confirm important decisions with the manufacturer, an inspection service or another authoritative source.

Acceptable use

You may use the public service for lawful personal, research and commercial reference purposes. You must not:

• attempt to bypass security, access controls, publication gates or rate limits;
• interfere with the service or place an unreasonable load on its infrastructure;
• use automated access in a way that disrupts normal visitors or ignores published crawler controls;
• submit unlawful material, malicious code or personal information unrelated to a tool's purpose;
• misrepresent PhotoDataLab data or branding as an official manufacturer statement or endorsement.

Dataset license and permitted reuse

The PhotoDataLab name, interface, original text, code presentation and data compilation may be protected by intellectual-property laws. You may link to public pages and quote reasonable portions with attribution. These Terms do not grant a right to reproduce the full dataset, copy the site, remove notices or use the PhotoDataLab or Ritkey branding in a way that suggests endorsement. Third-party names and trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

Third-party links

The service may link to third-party websites for context or attribution. PhotoDataLab does not control those websites and is not responsible for their availability, content, security or privacy practices.

Availability and changes

We may correct data, change features, update publication thresholds, limit abusive access or discontinue a part of the service. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or preservation of a particular result, URL, dataset version or feature.

Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by applicable law, PhotoDataLab is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement or uninterrupted operation. Nothing on the site is professional, legal, financial or purchasing advice.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, PhotoDataLab and its developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or for loss of data, revenue, opportunity or goodwill arising from use of or reliance on the service. Rights and remedies that cannot legally be excluded remain unaffected.

Changes and contact

We may update these Terms as the service changes. The date above identifies the current version. Continued use after an update means the revised Terms apply from their stated date. Questions can be sent through the Contact page. Because no governing jurisdiction has been designated for the project, these Terms do not invent one; mandatory laws applicable to you or the service remain unaffected.
